Mae Starr Phonograph Doll with 6 Cylinder Records

  Lot # 102

  • Starting Bid: $150.00

Description

Circa 1928, a rare "Mae Starr" talking doll, which contains a phonograph mechanism.  Research indicates this is the Madame Hendren Dolly Rekord phonograph doll by the Averill Manufacturing Company.  It's marked Mae Starr on the neck.

The composition body has cracks and damage.  29" doll with teeth and sleep eyes.

There are 6 cylinder records:

Little Boy Blue

Now I Lay Me

London Bridge

Rock-A-Bye Baby

One, Two

Old Mother Hubbard.

We believe these records will also work on other dolls made by the Averill Manufacturing Company.  These could actually be worth more than the doll itself, since the records are very hard to come by!

Phonograph is working; it seems to run a little too fast.
