Description

This is a FABULOUS Original Watercolor by Chavez Morado (1909-2002), and is titled "Morelia" which is a city in Michoacan, Mexico.  Chavez was a major and highly respected Mexican artist, associated with the Mexican muralist movement.  The details and colors are amazing!  The label on the back shows that this particular piece was on exhibit at the Twenty-second Chicago Art Institutes International Exhibition of Water Colors in 1943. This was a very prestigious event from 1910-1950's.  This was an INVITED ONLY event meaning that the artist was selected directly by the museum's curators - not submitted through open entries.  The 1943 edition featured top American and international watercolorists, but being held during WW11, it limited European participation, giving prominence to Mexican and Latin American artist.  This label is historically significant because it documents that Chavez Morado exhibited in the United States in 1943 during a key movement for Mexican modernism. It is perfectly framed for this piece.  The paper back has some tears at the top, it still has the label from the framer in Chicago and the Exhibition label. It measures 11x14 and ready for hanging.  An awesome and historical piece !
