Description

Antique Thomas Wood Co. Boston “Importers Package Teas” Wooden Shipping Crate
(Late 1800s – Early 1900s)

This is an original wooden shipping crate used by the Thomas Wood Company, a Boston-based importer and merchant well-known in the late 19th and early 20th century for distributing teas and dry goods.

Key Features of the Crate

  • Bold black stenciling:
    “THOMAS WOOD CO.
    BOSTON
    IMPORTERS PACKAGE TEAS”

  • Solid pine or similar softwood construction

  • Early nailed construction, likely with cut nails

  • Original hinged lid with hardware still present

  • A large, display-worthy antique advertising surface

  • Likely shipped loose-leaf or packaged teas to general stores and grocers

  • Measures 27" wide x 13.5" deep x 15.24" tall

Tea crates are particularly collectible because tea importing was a major New England trade, and Boston-marked crates have strong historical interest.

PERIOD

Based on style, stenciling, and construction:
🟢 Circa 1880–1910
