Description

Hand-Carved Stone Chameleon Sculpture, 20th Century

A finely hand-carved stone sculpture depicting a chameleon resting on a branch, carved from naturally banded polychrome stone with warm ochre, cream, and deep burgundy coloration. The figure displays detailed incised scale patterning, rounded eyes, and a serrated dorsal ridge, with the branch base carved integrally from the same stone.

The underside is left minimally finished, consistent with hand-carved lapidary work. Unmarked. Likely Southwestern in origin, mid- to late-20th century.

Height approximately 1¼ inches; length approximately 2¼ inches.

Condition Very good condition overall. Minor surface abrasions and natural inclusions consistent with the stone and hand-carved process. No cracks or repairs observed.
