Description

Chinese Carved Mother-of-Pearl Dragon Brooch

Finely carved Chinese dragon brooch executed in luminous natural mother-of-pearl, displaying exceptional iridescence with pink, green, and gold tones. The dragon is depicted in high relief with flowing mane, scaled body, and stylized clouds, centered by the traditional flaming pearl motif. Set with original applied red glass eyes.

The reverse retains an early riveted metal pin mount with simple C-clasp, consistent with Chinese export jewelry from the late Qing to early Republic period, circa 1900–1930.

Measures approximately 2½ inches in length. Condition is very good for age, with minor surface wear and natural inclusions typical of shell carving. A striking and collectible example of early Chinese carved shell jewelry.
