Description

Finely carved Chinese export brooch depicting a crouched rabbit, executed in luminous natural mother-of-pearl with strong iridescent tones of pink, green, and gold. The figure is rendered in high relief with carefully incised fur detailing and retains its original applied red glass eye.

The reverse is fitted with an original metal pin mount stamped with a U.S. patent number dating to the late 1930s, confirming early 20th-century manufacture. Rabbit imagery holds symbolic significance in Chinese culture, associated with the moon, longevity, and good fortune.

Measures approximately 2½ inches in length. Condition is very good, with light wear consistent with age and use. A highly attractive and collectible example of Chinese carved shell jewelry.
